Spring Cleaning Day

The Spring Cleanup Event took place at the Wetlands near American Canyon Middle School, where we had gathered until everyone had arrived. There was breakfast for all the volunteers, getting us ready for the cleanup we had ahead. We started out with the weeding around the outdoor gym. The weeds had been overgrown around the gym, so removing them was essential and necessary. This process took around an hour with the collaboration of the volunteers, where we had filled 4 garbage bins with the weeds. After we finished, we took a quick break before the next part of the event. During this time, we got to bond with the other volunteers at the gym, playing on the exercising equipment and having fun with them. The next part of the event turned to a new location for picking up trash, that being Community Park 1 and 2. We split ourselves in small groups, were given trash bags and claw grabbers to pick up the trash, and were told to download the Clean Swell app. Clean Swell is an app where we used to record and collect the data for what types of trash that we had picked up. Our group had walked around the baseball fields around the middle school, the dinosaur park, and the Boys and Girls Club, collecting a total amount of 7.13 pounds of trash, individually 138 pieces of trash. With our help during this event, we’d cleaned up part of our community and bonded with the other volunteers through a positive environmental reason!!
